Africa’s century: foreign direct investment trends, risks and opportunities

For many years multinational companies have lacked a coherent strategy for Africa. This decade has marked a major turning point for the world’s second largest continent. 

With attractive macro-economic fundamentals and the prospect of 20% returns on foreign direct investment (FDI) projects, several countries within the region now present a mixture of opportunities for companies seeking to reduce cost, increase revenue, or improve/increase supply chain efficiencies within the region.

Western companies are moving into the region in earnest, helping to diversify African economies into manufacturing and office based activities and competing against Chinese and Indian firms that have long been present in Africa.​
